Oh look. Hunter S. Thompson having a rant. I like to read other people’s rants. Thanks for this, kwert, cheered me up no end.

I got sent the latest Darwin Awards this morning. Here’s something else that makes me rant. Not that people should amuse themselves be recounting how stupid people manage to remove themselves from the gene pool. I think that sort of thing is hilarious. No. What makes me rant is that they stole the entire bloody idea from the inestimable Cult of Father Darwin, a fine group of people who can write and think and argue properly, not to mention rant with the best of them. Ah yes. The Cult of Father Darwin, even less tolerant of fuckwits and stupidity than I am, and that’s saying something.

And I continue to calm my frazzled nerves with the The Atheism Web’s Logic & Fallacies, which will provide ample ammunition for explaining why most people’s arguments aren’t even arguments.

The icing on the cake is this article on Lucifer and Satan by the Freemasons, which just goes to show that generally accepted fact can be a pile of old wank at times.

Aaaah. The Church of Virus fairly brings a warm glow to this over-stressed heart of mine, fed up with the vagaries of this fuckwit-infested world. I’ll bet they understand the inadequacies of words. Level 3 Consciousness is something that more people should look at. It would certainly make them think twice about spouting forth on the absolute objective truth of beliefs. And finally the best of the bunch. Epistemology of Email is an essay about the dynamics of conversational flow, and cause and effect in aggressive, detailed discussions on email lists, and is certainly something I am going to recommend to Atropos denizens. And probably Biatach denizens also. All of this just in time to soothe my fevered brow after more idiocy is vented on UKPML. Grrr.

I’m still furious about the wolf cull in Norway. I’ve just watched Siri Bjerke trying to justify what they are doing on Countryfile. Never did get a response from her after I mailed my protest, not even an automatic one.

I’ve just come across The Heroic Age for the first time, courtesy of a posting on britarch. Issue 4 is Anglo-Celtic Relations in the Early Middle Ages and it looks like it might well be quite interesting, even though the period it examines is a bit later than the Iron Age stuff that interests me. Next issue’s anthropological approach to Beowulf should be interesting too.

The Baen Free Library is offering it’s own solution to the problem of copyright theft – put up books for free. Showing the sort of common sense rarely seen on the web, the policy is that getting a book for free online is really no worse than having a book lent by the purchaser to a friend in terms of loss, and if the book is enjoyed, people are likely to buy it – it is preferable to read hard copy, after all. I do believe that they are quite right.

Heh. I see that Andy Burnham has been busy again. The Megalithic Portal is taking over from his other sites, and having looked at it I can see why he might be running out of time to keep the other ones updated. That’s a lot of stuff on there, although I note that there is, as yet, no link to the Site Damage Database. Harumph.
